Abstract
The spectrum of Sr IV emitted from a sliding spark has been studied. The previous analysis has been revised and greatly extended. About 570 lines in the range 6 000 Å to 250 Å have been identified as combinations between 23 odd levels belonging to the 4s 24p 5 and 4s 24p 45p configurations and 72 even levels belonging to the 4s4p 6, 4s 24p 45s, 6s, 4d and 5d configurations. Only one level, (1 D)4d 2 G 9/2, remains unidentified in these configurations whereas only seven of the levels were known previously. The configurations have been interpreted theoretically with configuration interaction effects included. The energy parameters determined in least-squares fits to the observed energy-level values are compared with Hartree-Fock values. The eigenvectors obtained in the least-squares fitting are used to calculate gf values for the transitions to the ground term from the even configurations. These are compared to the observed intensities. The ionization energy is estimated to be 453 800 ± 2 000 cm-1 (56.3 ± 0.2 eV). Calculated wavelengths of 85 lines in the 560 Å to 264 Å range are proposed as reference wavelengths. Keywords
