Abstract
Quartered adrenal glands from young leghorn chickens were incubated with cholesterol-7α-3H of high specific activity with and without ACTH; cholesterol-7α-3H was added to the incubation medium in aqueous Tween 80. The adrenal quarters were found to convert cholesterol-3H to corticosterone-3H and this conversion was increased by addition of ACTH. These observations demonstrate that avian adrenal tissue behaves in vitro like the corresponding mammalian tissue according to the parameters investigated. (Endocrinology79: 652, 1966)Keywords
