Abstract
Measured cross sections for deactivation of the A 2Πu states of N+2 in O2, H2, and He are presented for the energy range 6.5 to 12 keV. Deactivation cross sections are determined by fitting a three‐parameter ’’growth’’ equation for excited states to the measured variation of the population of excited states in a fast molecular beam with the pressure of the target gas through which it passed. The cross sections are significantly larger for the molecular targets and the cross sections for deactivation in O2 have the same magnitude (about 2×10−14 cm2) as those measured by other investigators at thermal energies. Keywords
