Evaluation of a Tissue-Culture Newcastle Disease Vaccine

Abstract
The use of a nonavian tissue-culture-modified Newcastle disease vaccine resulted in no detectable transmission or spread of vaccine virus to unvaccinated pen-contact control chickens. A B1-type vaccine in the water and LaSota strain vaccine given IM resulted in transmission of vaccine virus to pen-contact control chickens. A comparison of handling effects alone and vaccine with tissue-culture vaccine alone on birds in production showed no detrimental effect on fertility and only a slight effect on hatchability or egg production. Only very slight decline in egg production was observed when tissue-culture Newcastle disease vaccinated hens were challenged with GB (IM) and DK (IN) strains of NDV.
