Abstract
A marked splitting of the peak in the uv photoemission spectrum of physisorbed Xe is observed for the first time. The splitting depends on the concentration in the adlayer, becoming apparent just before maximum coverage is reached. The lateral interactions responsible for this effect also produce a strong dispersion of the levels.
