Abstract
A new theory of backscattering in single-mode fibers is presented. It allows backscatter waveforms to be predicted for fibers of any refractive-index profile or scattering-loss distribution. The results agree with experimental data and provide confirmation of an earlier, more restricted theory. Keywords
