A nearest-neighbor Kossel-crystal model accounts for many of the observed features of hcp equilibrium crystal shapes, including the identity of the principal facets, the class of crystal-shape thermal evolution, the macroscopic aspect ratio of the crystal, and the sequence and order of magnitude of faceting temperatures.
