Abstract
The luminous ablation plume formed by laser irradiation of the superconductor YBa2Cu3O7−x has been investigated by high‐speed framing photography. The pressure of the background oxygen gas was found to influence significantly the velocity distribution of ejected products. Pressures above 0.25 mbar resulted in the formation of shock waves and instabilities on the shock front. Keywords
