Abstract
The metabolism and resorption of salicylic acid and some of its conjugates given per os to rabbits were studied and compared. The absorption of the [beta]-glucuronide or glucoside conjugates of salicylic acid was less than that of the free salicylic acid. Since the gastrointestinal tract itself is able to form glucuronide conjugates from a great variety of biologically active substances, this protective detoxification function obviously contributes to the loss of active material even before reaching the circulation after oral administration. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
