Abstract
Single-pole switching is investigated on a 150 km, 500 kV transmission line using a hybrid computer simulation which has been verified by comparison with field tests. The effects of transpositions along with changes in the neutral and shunt reactors are studied. Also, a detailed representation of a synchronous machine is incorporated with the simulation of the transmission line to study the effects of single-pole switching upon the electrical and mechanical transients of the machine. This method of representation offers a means of predicting the instantaneous torque as well as the couple-frequency rotor currents during single-pole switching.Keywords
