Abstract
Cell-free suspension fluids from damaged (ultraviolet injured) cells (I) had appreciably higher content of amino-N than fluids from control suspensions (II). Amino-acids (III) in cones. equivalent to or greater than that in I stimulated the growth of yeast in unsupplemented Reader''s medium and in Reader''s medium supplemented with B factors. Addition of I to Reader''s medium stimulated the growth of yeast more than addition of III in all cones. employed. Addition of I and III to Reader''s medium supplemented with B factors stimulated the growth of yeast more than addition of III alone. It is concluded that amino-acids account for a part, but not all, of the proliferation-promoting effect of I.
