Inhibition of experimental epilepsy by chemical stimulation of cerebellum

Abstract
Cobalt implant in the frontal lobe causes epilepsy in rats. Cobalt implant in the homolateral cerebellar hemisphere counteracts the epileptogenic effect of cobalt in the frontal lobe. Neither a silver nitrate-induced abscess nor a bland graphite implant in the cerebellum had any effect on cobalt epilepsy. The inhibition of cobalt epilepsy by cobalt implant in the cerebellum is ascribed to chronic irritation and stimulation of the cerebellum, a view supported by histologic evidence.
