Abstract
The localization and identification of lipid components of normal prostatic tissue and secretion in the dog throughout the various phases of the secretory cycle were studied. Lipids of the acinar epithelium were predominantly neutral fat; the remainder consisted of phospholipids, cholesterol, and cholesterol esters. Most of the phosphatide was probably lecithin, but no lecithin could be demonstrated in the acinar lumen. Birefringent lipids, possible neutral fat, cholesterol and its esters were localized in both the epithelium and stroma. Cholesterol was absent in the acinar lumen.
