Interference by X-Irradiation with the Induced Synthesis of Tryptophan Pyrrolase

Abstract
The effect of X-irradia-tion on the synthesis of tryptophan pyrrolase following hydrocortisone and tryptophan administration was investigated in the liver of the intact male Sprague-Dawley rat Twenty-four hours after sham or X-irradiation of food-and water-deprived animals, either hydrocortisone or tryptophan was administered intraperitoneally. Enzyme levels in liver were obtained for the following 13 hr. It was found that radiation interfered with the hormonal induction of tryptophan pyrrolase. However, the time course of enzyme activity following tryptophan administration was not significantly affected by irradiation.
