Abstract
A semi-empirical formula for calculating the RMS radii of proton distributions in stable nuclei and nuclei close to stability with Z, N>or=6 is presented. When applied to calculate the RMS radii of the charge distributions in nuclei, the formula fits the experimental data for 285 nuclei with a mean accuracy of about 0.026 fm.Keywords
