Abstract
The mass dispersion approach of Fubini and Furlan is applied to single-pion production in nucleon-nucleon collisions. The finite-mass correction to the zero-mass limit is exhibited, and it is shown that in a nonrelativistic approximation this correction leads directly to a simple distorted-wave Born approximation for the physical amplitude. The transition operator is determined directly from the nucleon field-chirality equal-time commutation relation and, in the rest frame of the pion, is given by the standard interaction term. Keywords
