Abstract
1. The increase in titer of antibodies following administration of monovalent influenza vaccines, prepared from the PR8, FM1, or Lee strains, was measured by agglutination-inhibition, complementfixation, and mouse neutralization tests. 2. The mean-fold increase in titer was greatest (8.3-fold) following the PR8 vaccine, and least (3.4-fold) following the FM1 vaccine. 3. The FM1 antibody response was greater in the group of individuals who had received the homologous FM1 vaccine than in those who had received the PR8 vaccine. 4. Complement-fixing antibodies showed relatively small increases in titer following administration of any of the 3 vaccines. 5. In parallel tests with FM1 virus, the titers of agglutination-inhibiting antibodies correlated poorly with mouse-neutralizing antibodies. Keywords
