Abstract
Sixty-six student teachers rated two tape recordings of a supervisory conference, one in which the supervisor was very directive and one in which the supervisor was nondirective. Contrary to the predicted outcome, subjects expressed a clear preference for directive supervisory behavior. Potential explanations for the discrepancy between the current results and those of earlier studies are discussed. Keywords
