Abstract
Pain is shown to be associated with a lowering of the perception of simultaneous nonpainful sensory stimuli. The degree of interference is found to increase in proportion to the pain intensity at the time of testing. However, this pain intensity at the time of testing may be modified by the relative attention to the painful and the nonpainful stimulation. Keywords
