Abstract
A 12-month retrospective study indicated that 114 aggressive incidents occurred directed mainly at other patients and against the instigator himself. Patients admitted from other hospitals because of unmanageable aggressive behaviour were over-represented, whereas those detained indefinitely having been found guilty but insane were under-represented. Relatively few patients admitted or resident during the survey period were instigators of aggressive incidents, and of these a small number were responsible for a large number of incidents. Keywords
