Abstract
Rabbits were sen-sitized to egg albumin by injn. of egg white on alternate days in the following doses: 1 cc. intraven.; 0. 5 cc. intraven.; 1 cc. intramusc. Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) was given orally as 5-grain tablets. 21 rabbits were sensitized. and 11 animals were given the drug 16 days later. The drug was repeated the same day and again the next day. One hr. later, these animals and the other 10 controls were injd. intraven. with 0. 6 cc. of egg white. 9 of the 11 exptl. animals showed no shock, and the remaining 2 had mild shock. All controls showed shock, and ''2 died. Three wks. later, survivors of both groups were again challenged without the ASA with 0.6 cc. of egg white, intraven. All showed shock. 11 rabbits were given 5 gr. of ASA orally, and this dose was repeated twice the next day. One hr. later, each rabbit was injd. intraven. with 2.75 mg. of histamine phosphate. 7 of the 11 died, 2 showed severe shock, and 2 showed moderate shock. Keywords
