Further Tests of Synthetic Organic Compounds as Insecticides

Abstract
64 synthetic organic compounds were subjected to various tests to determine their insecticidal action against from 4 to 8 spp. of insect pests. 14 were toxic to at least a few of the spp. and are discussed in some detail. The most toxic compounds were 4-bromoacetophenone, a volatile fumigant and contact insecticide; p-bromo-N-ethylbenzenesulfonamide, a fairly toxic stomach insecticide but toxic to foliage; 4,6-dinitro-o-cresol propionate and 2,4-dinitrophenol propionate, very toxic compounds but injurious to foliage; and 4-methylcyclohexanone semicarba-zide, a fairly toxic stomach insecticide but injurious to foliage. 50 compounds were relatively non-toxic and are listed by name only.
