Abstract
The results of treatment of 112 patients with various prepns. of ACTH are summarized. No increase in response occurred on raising the size of a single dose over 10 mg., and 4-5 mg. appeared to represent the physiological dose. Dosages seemed best judged by eosinophile response. Total daily dose is small (20-25 mg./day) when given divided in 4-5 injns. For children over 7 yrs. old, dose is proportional to wt.; younger children are refractory; but in these patients treatment with chorionic gonadotropin increases the ACTH effectiveness. The mechanism of ACTH action is believed to be associated with its effects on depolymerization of intercellular mucopolysaccharides. Keywords
