Abstract
Infusion of angiotensin II into the jugular vein of hypophysectomized rats with ligated renal blood vessels generally resulted in an increase in aldosterone production, as measured by the secretion rate into adrenal vein blood. Hypophysectomy was performed one week before study. Measurements were done on the pooled blood of several animals by the soda fluorescence reaction and also on the blood of single animals by the double isotope derivative method. The change in aldosterone production was not clearly related to the dose of angiotensin or the change in blood pressure resulting from the infusion. Possible explanations for the variable results are discussed. Angiotensin II infusion either resulted in a small increase in corticosterone secretion which is not considered physiologically significant, or it had no effect. (Endocrinology74: 325, 1964)Keywords
