Abstract
The content of carotenoids in perirenal fat and blood-fat of 29 pasture grazed lambs was analyzed. The animals were part of a breed with a high frequency of yellow fat. The correlation between the concentration of carotenoids in perirenal fat and blood fat was estimated to 0.9 with confidence limits 0.74 and 0.96 on a 95% level. The correlation between concentration of carotenoids in plasma was slightly greater and was estimated to 0.91 with confidence limits 0.75 and 0.96 on a 95% level. Three different components could be detected when pigments from renal fat where separated on thin layer sheets.
