Abstract
A simple model of the hypertriton is presented. The lambda particle is taken to orbit an unperturbed deuteron in a lambda-deuteron potential based on a separable lambda-nucleon potential. A calculation of R= Gamma (Lambda 3H to pi -+3He)/ Gamma (Lambda 3H to pi -+X) finds R=0.33+or-0.02 in agreement with the experimental value of R=0.35+or-0.04. The hypertriton lifetime due to mesonic decay is found to be tau (Lambda 3H)=2.32*10-10 s.Keywords
