Abstract
Technetium-99m hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (99mTc HMDP) is a new diphosphonate skeletal imaging agent. Animal studies show that 99mTc HMDP has a higher uptake on bone and a more rapid clearance from the blood than any of the 3 Tc-labeled bone imaging agents in current use: 99mTc methylene diphosphonate (MDP), 99mTc (1-hydroxyethylidene) diphosphonate (HEDP), and 99mTc pyrophosphate (PPi). Based on these animal studies, 99mTc HMDP is a highly promising candidate for skeletal imaging.
