Abstract
A thermal gradient in a current-carrying superconductor gives rise to a branch imbalance and hence to a potential difference between quasiparticles and condensate. We present a theory of this effect valid for a dirty and for a clean superconductor which is in good agreement with recent experiments. Keywords
