Abstract
Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra of Zn K absorption in amorphous and crystalline Mg-Zn are reported. The EXAFS spectrum of the amorphous state exhibits smooth oscillations up to the sixth period, whilst those of partially crystallized and crystalline material exhibit such oscillations up to only the second period. The damping of the oscillations is explained in terms of destructive interference between Zn-Zn and Zn-Mg pair distributions. Keywords
