Abstract
Relative abundance is detd. from daily lists of all spp. seen and by counts on sample areas. Repetition of counts on the same areas showed variations up to 7%. The abundance of each sp. is expressed in % of times observed; this affords reliable indications of variation between different localities, from one yr. to another, and to a lesser extent between seasons. The chief sources of error were differences between spp. in conspicuousness and gregariousness. Groupings of the % of occurrence agree well with the Raunkiaer formula. Fluctuations in the abundance of a number of common spp. are shown, and the discussion includes results for 1932-35 previously published. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
