Abstract
Papillary muscles isolated from cats in the late stages of postoligemic shock and cats spontaneously developing acute circulatory collapse exhibit depressed excitability and contractility as well as impaired responsiveness to angiotensin II and to norepinephrine, but not to ouabain. Papillary muscles isolated from cats in the early stages of postoligemic shock and from cats subjected to acute anoxia do not show significant differences from untreated controls in any of these variables. The isolated cat papillary muscle preparation is a useful in vitro technique for the study of the myocardial depression that is present in acute circulatory collapse and in late postoligemic shock. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
