Abstract
Gastric secretion from Pavlov and Heidenhain pouch dogs was collected quantitatively by inserting nylon plastic cannulas in the pouch sealed with omentum. In 11 animals, the 24-hr. output of free HC1 was reduced by resection of the pyloric antrum. Antrum resection caused a greater proportional reduction in HC1 output in animals with Heidenhain pouches (93%) than in Pavlov pouches (74%). Resection of less than 2/3 of the antrum had no effect on the pouch secretion. Removal of 90% of the antrum in one case caused a marked decrease in secretion from the pouch, and a still further reduction occurred when the small antrum remnant was removed. Removal of the entire antrum produced a variable and probably insignificant effect on the gastric secretory response to a standard dose of histamine. Keywords
