Using Student Evaluations to Improve Learning

Abstract
Evaluating teaching performance has always been a top priority for college administrators. This study uses a longitudinal research design to compare student evaluations of instructor performance, course quality, teacher-student relationships, and student satisfaction with the instructor across time. Findings indicate that student evaluations change over time and the final grade has a negative impact on attitudes toward the class. The authors make suggestions for obtaining feedback, ways to influence student satisfaction, and research to improve teaching.
