Abstract
Various methods for estimating corticosteroids in plasma were reviewed. The author adopted the method of Nelson and Samuels in spite of several disadvantages. These included variable recovery from magnesium silicate-celite columns, high background absorption in the final colorimetric procedure, considerable variation between samples from the same plasma, and a nonlinear change in the optical density of the background with wave length which invalidates the Allen correction equation. Examples of plasma 17-hydroxycorticosteroid determinations after injection of ACTH, surgical operation, and pregnancy were given. Keywords
