Thyroid Globulin in the Treatment of Menstrual Irregularities

Abstract
Exptl. work on rats had shown that thyroid globulin had less effect on the heart rate than the whole thyroid powder. This material was tried on 28 patients to determine its effectiveness in the treatment of menstrual irregularities and, if so, whether its use would eliminate unpleasant symptoms occasionally complained of when the ordinary desiccated thyroid is used. Results on the menstrual period were comparable to those in a similar group who received desiccated thyroid. Six individuals who did not tolerate the desiccated thyroid were able to take the thyroid globulin without subjective complaints. Although the number of patients is too small for accurate conclusions, a trial with thyroid globulin is desirable in similar patients who do not tolerate the ordinary thyroid.
