Quantum-size effects in the electromagnetic response of small spheres

Abstract
The response of small metallic spheres to an electromagnetic field has been calculated to all multipole orders in the electronic excitations. Quantum-size effects have been analysed and found important for spheres with radii less than 10 AA, where large absorption peaks are associated with electron-hole-pair excitation energies.Keywords
