Genetics of Radiation Sensitivity in the Slime Mould Dictyostelium discoideum

Abstract
Mutations leading to increased sensitivity to 60Co gamma rays and/or UV light in the slime mold D. discoideum were assigned to 8 loci on the basis of linkage and complementation tests. The linkages of these loci are: radA, linkage group I; radB, linkage group VI; radC, linkage group III; radD, linkage group IV; radF, linkage group IV; radG, linkage group III; radH, linkage group II; and radI, linkage group III. The radC mutants, which were isolated on the basis of increased sensitivity to UV light, are as resistant as their parental strains to 60Co gamma rays, whereas all other mutants studied are sensitive to UV light and 60Co gamma rays. A new temperature-sensitive mutation, tsgL606 was assigned to linkage group I.
