THE MITOTIC COUNT IN THE ADRENAL CORTEX OF NORMAL GUINEA PIGS1

Abstract
The avg. number of mitoses in a section of adrenal gland of the guinea pig, 6[mu] thick, was 4.1. There was a strong probability that a gradual decrease in the mitotic proliferation took place from embryonic life to the age of 2 yrs. No significant difference was observed between the mitotic counts in [male] and [female] guinea pigs. In a relatively small number of expts. the count was higher in animals kept at a temp. of 20[degree]C. than in those kept at a temp. of 30[degree]C.
