In VitroMetabolism of 4-14C-Labeled Progesterone by Adrenal Glands from Rats with a Transplantable Mammotropic Pituitary Tumor

Abstract
The in vitro conversion of 4-14C-labeled progesterone to various products by adrenal glands from normal rats was compared with that by glands which were 10 times normal size and were from rats bearing transplantable mammotropic tumors. The amount of conversion per gram of tissue was 30 times greater by normal adrenal tissue. The metabolites of labeled progesterone were compared with 10 authentic adrenal steroids by column and thin-layer chromatography. Corticosterone and 18-hydroxydeoxycorticosterone were identified as products of conversion by normal tissue, whereas only 18-hydroxycorticosterone was identified following incubation of the large adrenal glands from rats having the pituitary tumors.
