Abstract
Epinephrine was infused continuously for periods of 30-82 min. intraven., dosage 0.12 to 0.35 ug./kg./min., a dose believed to be physiological. During infusion, systolic pressure rose and diastolic fell by 17 and 9%, respectively. After stopping infusion, systolic and diastolic pressures fell abruptly, and the heart rate gradually decreased over a 3-hr. period. During the infusion, blood glucose concn. rose an avg. of 67%; lactate rose 33%; and cholesterol 13%; inorganic serum P and K fell 29 and 22%,respectively. The subjects, normal men and women, experienced palpitation, tremor and cold hands and feet during the infusion; after the infusion they felt exhilarated and "better than before the infusion.".
