Abstract
Measurements of the uptake of 35SO4 in epiphyseal cartilage and metaphyseal bone of young rabbits given a short-term treatment with aminoacetonitrile are reported. When 35SO4 was administered previous to the lathyrogen, the results suggested an inhibited "transfer" of chondroitin sulfate from cartilage to bone. Injection of 35SO4 during or after the lathyrogenic treatment resulted in a depressed uptake in the growth zones. The results are correlated to previously reported alterations in mucopolysaccharide concentrations.
