Abstract
A study was undertaken to ascertain whether the ingestion of a tranquilizing drug alters the results of thyroid function studies. In 31 euthyroid and 12 hyperthyroid patients, the thyroidal 24-hour mdioiodine uptake and the serum cholesterol and protein-bound iodine levels were determined. These tests were repeated after ten to twenty-one days of therapy with pronnizine, meprobamate, hydroxyzine or reserpine. Statistical evaluation failed to reveal any significant difference in the results of thyroid function tests due to administration of these tranquilizing drugs. Keywords
