Abstract
Survival times have been measured in guinea pigs, mice, rats and golden hamsters, irradiated with large doses of X-rays. Pentobarbital, previously found to be effective in increasing survival time in the guinea pig was ineffective in the other species studied. Mice show a sharp transition in survival time at 45,000 r but this transition is not comparable to that seen in the guinea pig at lower doses. In rats and hamsters logarithm of survival time is a linear function of dose. Two human cases from Hiroshima have survival times comparable to those of the rodents studied.
