Abstract
[The use of .beta.-adrenergic receptor blocking agents to decrease myocardial O2 need and to control dysrhythmia after acute myocardial infarction has been limited because of their potential for producing long-lasting cardiac depression. Recently, it has been suggested that a .beta.-adrenergic blocking agent having an ultrashort duration of action could remedy this limitation.] In an attempt to produce short-acting .beta.-adrenergic receptor blocking agents, several (aryloxy)-propanolamines with ester functions incorporated into the N substituent were prepared. Many of these compounds exhibited a short duration of blocking activity after their continuous i.v. infusion for 40 min [in guinea pigs]. Their durations increased considerably upon longer i.v. infusion. Keywords
