Effect of pH on MM Virus

Abstract
In various buffers, MM virus was stable at room temp. only at neutral or alkaline reactions. When diluted virus was exposed at approx. pH 1 to neutrality the infectivity was diminished within 24 hrs. There was a slower decrease in virus titer at pH 9-10. At pH 7-9, the virus was found to be stable for >7 days. The deleterious effect of unfavorable pH was less for concd. virus suspensions. MM virus was apparently more stable in dist. water acidified with hydrochloric or acetic acid than in acidified physiol. saline or in veronal-acetate buffer solns. of approx. the same pH value.
