Binding of tRNA to Ribosomes The binding of tRNA to ribosomes has been extensively studied with both bacterial and mammalian systems. There is a reaction between the 30S portion of the ribosome, poly U, and tRNA specific for phenylalanine.56 The presence of 50S ribosomes in this reaction mixture doubles the amount of tRNA bound. However, the 50S ribosomes by themselves, or in the presence of poly U, bind very little phenylalanyl tRNA.
