Abstract
The use of beverage alcohol by the Camba of eastern Bolivia is described, in cultural context. Drinking plays a predominantly integrative role in this society where alcoholism is unknown. The anxieties which are often cited as bases for common group drinking are not present. Drinking parties constitute virtually the only corporate form of social expression and the ritual involved facilitates rapport between individuals who are normally isolated and introverted. Keywords
