Compact, Low-Loss Waveguide Crossings for High-Index-Contrast SOI Photonic Wires

Abstract
Waveguide crossings are essential for complex photonic circuits. We present compact crossings for silicon-on-insulator photonic wires. By locally applying a lower index contrast, 97.5% transmission is achieved in a 6μm length with only -40dB crosstalk.Keywords
