THE PRESENCE IN NORMAL URINE OF CORTIN-LIKE MATERIAL WHICH IS ACTIVE IN A MUSCLE WORK TEST

Abstract
An extract of pooled urine from normal men was tested for its cortin-like activity by the use of a muscle work test. The extract consisted of material extractable with ethylene dichloride, and insoluble in NaOH. A dose equivalent to 1 liter of urine was administered orally to adrenalectomized rats. The muscle work performance was increased 70% above that of untreated controls. 0.2 cc. of Wilson''s cortical extract caused an 80% increase in performance.
