COPPER-INDUCED PSEUDOPREGNANCY FACILITATED BY PRETREATMENT WITH ESTROGEN

Abstract
Intraven. injs. of 0.1 cc. of a 1% Cu acetate soln. induce pseudopregnancy in rats if injected at the time of estrus. This dose of Cu does not induce pseudopregnancy if injected at metestrus or diestrus. However, pretreatment with estrogen makes it possible to induce pseudopregnancy by inj. of Cu during metestrus or diestrus. Eight-12 [gamma] of estrone given at estrus followed by an inj. of Cu on the next day (metestrus) uniformly results in pseudopregnancy. Sixteen-24 [gamma] of estrone given at metestrus followed by an inj. of Cu on the next day (diestrus) induces pseudopregnancy. Similarly, pretreatment with estrogen, 10,000 I. U. on 2 successive days, makes it possible to induce ovulation and pseudopregnancy in the anestrous rabbit by an intraven. inj. of 1 cc. of a 1% soln. of Cu acetate on the 3d day.
